Pizza is the quintessential culinary staple of the North American diet. Luckily, Edmonton was recognized in Conde Nast Traveler magazine as one of the best pizza cities in the world. And while you really can’t go wrong when it comes to our pizza restaurants, a few stand out as the best of the best.
The next time you’re craving a slice or three of delicious pizza, give one of these places a try. They serve some of the best pizza in Edmonton.
1. Famoso Neapolitan Pizza
While it’s true that Famoso is a national chain, this pizzeria was born in Edmonton. Famoso was launched in 2007 by three Albertans after one of them traveled to Italy and fell in love with Neapolitan pizza. They have been awarded the title of best pizza in Edmonton numerous times.
Famoso uses 100% Canadian cow’s milk mozzarella, and their tomatoes are important from Campania and hand-milled before being caramelized in the ovens. Famoso has multiple locations around the city, including one in the West Edmonton Mall.
2. Tony’s Pizza Palace
Tony’s is an old school pizza joint that dates back to the 1940s when Tony Mazzotta Sr. was living it Cosenza, Italy and learning the fine art of pizza making. He moved to Canada in 1959 and opened a pizza shop in New York six years later.
Tony eventually returned to the country that had captured his heart, Canada, and opened Tony’s Pizza Palace in Edmonton in 1974. It’s been a local favorite ever since. You’ll find it at 9605 111 Avenue.
3. Rosso Pizzeria
Rosso is located in one of Edmonton’s oldest and most charming neighborhoods (8738 109 Street NW). The ingredients in their delicious pizza are fresh, local and organic whenever possible. You’ll find plenty of classic pies on the menu along with some creative options, like the Filetto di Manzo: Local organic beef tenderloin, caramelized onions, horseradish cream and gorgonzola topped with crispy onions.
If you love pizza, you’ll fall head over heels for LovePizza, located at 10196 109 Street. Launched by a couple who fell in love over (what else) a pizza date, this is a place that is focused on community and the dining experience—although they do offer takeout and delivery if you’d rather enjoy it at home. Their pizzas have clever names (Holy Shiitake and Pie on the Fly, anyone?), and they even sell t-shirts and tanks.
5. Royal Pizza
Royal Pizza is another local chain you’ll find all over town. Since they first opened in Old Strathcona in 1969, they’ve become a local icon both for their menu and their fun, family-friendly atmosphere. The secret to their tasty pizza lies in their signature rich, tangy sauce and special cheese blend.
6. Versato’s Pizza
Visit Versato’s when you’re at your hungriest. Edmonton’s thickest pizza certainly lives up to its reputation, with their special—called The Big One—tipping the scales at seven pounds. Luckily it’s also delicious, with many locals swearing it’s the best in the city. You’ll find Versato’s at 12753 50 Street NW.
If you love pizza, you’ll love Edmonton. And when you’re ready to move into The Hendrix, you’ll be surrounded by delicious dining options. Ready to schedule a tour so we can show you around?
